Those in need of a rest from treasure hunting and gun slinging can sit back and view previous games through the cinema option.
If you think they’re intense, just wait until you get your mitts on Co-op Arena, which sees a seemingly endless array of enemies blitz the screen, leaving players with little option other than to fight fire with fire and triumph or fail amid a sea of bullets.įor my money, the co-op games are the stars of the show and are – often quite literally – an absolute riot. These involve taking out bad guys in a story-like mode and are generally a more intense version of the fantastic Uncharted main game that we all came to know and love. Rather than merely being a two-player run through of the game’s story mode, Naughty Dog give gamers the opportunity to tackle numerous scenarios with two friends. However, it’s the multiplayer co-op modes where Uncharted 2 really kicks clear of the competition. Put simply, it doesn’t take long before Uncharted 2’s multiplayer games reveal themselves to be far more than just Gears of War with treasure hunting. The competitive multiplayer also holds neat quirks such as ‘Pistol and Grenades mode,’ in which players are armed with only, yes you’ve guessed it, pistols and grenades. The shit hits the fan when the two teams meet in the middle. The originality of this mode comes in the fact that the heroes must capture the zones in order of 1-2-3-4-5, and the villains in 5-4-3-2-1. Admittedly this isn’t mind blowingly innovative, but it’s welcome nonetheless. Meanwhile, Chain Reaction adds further variety to a well-trodden concept, with players having to capture zones in a particular order to progress.

Not only that, but the presence of familiar characters, plenty of weapons and numerous lovingly-crafted maps further drag these modes out of the ordinary and to a level where you’d be happy to pay for this as a stand-alone game, nevermind as an add-on to one of the most anticipated PS3 titles of the year.
The treasure-packed haul can also be thrown around so it can be delivered to its destination as quickly as possible. However, this is not as easy as it sounds, since the member lugging the gold around will become more sluggish in their movements pirate booty is pretty heavy, after all.Īlso, the character carrying the treasure will be limited in firepower, with only a handgun usable while they are weighed down with glittering goodies. Once a team has located the treasure one member must pick it up and carry it to a designated area. While Plunder may be, at heart, capture the flag with bells on, some of the bells added are shiny enough to impress. Players are split into teams of five, with familiar faces Nate, Sully and Elena and newbs Tenzen and Chloe all playable. There’s the self explanatory Deathmatch, in which players kill until they cannot kill any more Chain Reaction, which is basically a game of zones and Plunder, which is capture the flag with treasure. It must be said that, on first glance, many of Uncharted 2’s online options don’t really pull up any trees.
